Goodbye Georgia

September 27th, 2019

Hello home-on-wheels
After almost a year of working hard to become "location independent", we have finally left our first home together behind. It's been a week since we left Georgia - where we met, spent most of our years together, made countless special memories, and found friends that became family.
Our last visit to Riverbend Park – our go-to fishing spot & where we got engaged

It was bittersweet, of course. We had to say some difficult goodbyes, and leave behind the people and places we'd grown to love. It was a little scary to leave our "normal" behind for the thrill of the unknown. We also had to deal with downsizing a house full of stuff, and go through everything that we were keeping multiple times to make sure it was worth it's space in our new tiny home.
Almost done clearing out the old house
The downsizing process made me realize - you don't really need much. We worked so hard to fill our house with stuff that just ended up collecting dust or sitting in a closet. Now we're down to just the essentials, and are still going through things to make sure we really need them with us. It was a lot of work to downsize, and to learn how to live in a small space. After living in our camper though, it feels totally normal and it'd probably be weird going back to having a house. The dogs have adjusted well too. They seem happy and at home wherever we are.
We're currently parked at my dad's in Virginia until the wedding. I can't believe we are only THREE WEEKS away. We've been really appreciating the cooler weather and gorgeous fall colors. Besides preparing for the wedding, and daydreaming of our future adventures, we're finishing up a few projects on our camper. We're still working on organization and decorating, and we haven't finished our bathroom plans yet, but most of the hardest renovation is behind us.

We've visited our wedding venue twice now and are really happy with the vibes there! We'll be staying in a rustic lodge on a beautiful farm in the mountains called Mountain Laurel Farm. Throw in the world's cutest cows, a huge woodshed converted to an outdoor reception area, plenty of space for family and friends to camp with us, fresh wildflowers for decorating, and a pond for Kyle to fish - it's a dream come true. I'm so ready to marry my best friend, and am so excited for the awesome adventures we'll have as Husband and Wife.

Georgia will always have a special place in my heart as our first home together, but I am beyond excited to finally be free of rent, yard-work, and the ridiculously HOT Georgia weather. I already miss our friends, and the special places we called "ours", but there is so much more to see. For now, we are enjoying Virginia. It has always been one of my favorite states, and it's so nice being close to family, but I can't WAIT to see where we go next.
